The International break is a chance for some of the players who have not been in the first team on a regular basis to knuckle down and show Chris Hutchings what they can do.

Emmerson Boyce is one of those players but the start of the season could have been different had he not picked up an injury just before the season began.

"Just before the Leeds game in training, I was scoring a few goals and I picked up a little groin injury " says Boycie,

"It was worse than we first thought, we thought it would just be a week or two but it turned out to be longer.  But thats what happens in football sometimes as frustrating as it is, but I'm more or less back to full fitness now and fingers crossed everything will be alright."

The defender made his comeback against Hull in the Carling cup then ten days ago at St. James Park, he was thrown in at left-back following the controversial dismissal of Kevin Kilbane.

"The manager showed faith in me to put me in that position, it wasn't ideal as our backs were against the wall and Newcaslte are a good team but in the end, we were unlucky not to come away with a point"

BOYCIE:Working Hard to Impress

With Kevin Kilbane suspended and Salomon Olembe playing in the reserves on Wednesday night, Emerson could be set to make an appearance against Fulham on Saturday and he knows they'll be a tough nut to crack.

"They've spent a lot of money and showed their ambition and they might be a long ball side but they can get the results and if they come here and play long ball then we'll adapt to it.  They'll be full of confidence after coming from behind against Tottenham and hopefully we can get ahead and kill the game off and not get caught like Spurs did."
