Andreas Granqvist is a 22-year old Swedish defender from Helsingborgs where he was captain, and was reportedly watched by Liverpool and Bayern Munich. Standing at well over six feet tall, he should provide some aerial presence in the Latics defence.
He spent his first six months with Latics on loan from January 2007, but found opportunities limited as the management opted for experience during Wigan's fight for survival in the Barclays Premiership.
Manager Chris Hutchings snapped up the Swede in the summer, who is described as strong and pacey, and he penned a two year deal which will see him fill the void left by the departed Arjan De Zeeuw and Matt Jackson.
