Jennifer Grist remembers Promotion day.

As a Wigan Athletic Supporter there are so many favourite Latics memories to choose from, every time the lads step out onto the pitch I'm very proud of each and every one of them and proud to call them my team.
After just 27 years in the Football League, I will always remember the last game in the Coca Cola Championship Season - it was against Reading on Sunday, May, 8th 2005 and was the day when everyone involved with Wigan Athletic got what they deserved, the opportunity to host the likes of Liverpool, Arsenal and Chelsea at the JJB Stadium - Wigan were in the Premier League.
As soon as I woke up I knew it was always going to be about Wigan Athletic, that on Monday 9th May 2005 Wigan would dominate the headlines of every newspaper letting the whole world know that WE'VE DONE IT!
I'll never forget that feeling of excitement, nerves and anticipation. I arrived at the ground 1 hour before kick off and even at that moment I felt on top of the world. I took my seat in the West Stand, Row J Seat 232, and prepared myself for the first kick of the game to take place at 1.00pm. With just five minutes on the clock a shot from The Duke was spilled behind by Reading Goalkeeper Hahnemann but it was "Super Lee" McCulloch (Players Player of the Year for the 2004/05 season) that got the ball rolling by scoring from close range in the 18th minute. I was delighted to see the ball go in and I was unable to contain my delight when just three minutes later Jason Roberts (Player of the Year for the 2004/05 season) ran through to slot in the second goal, a calm side footed finish from the Latics number 30. It was on 85 minutes that the party reached fever pitch when the 3rd goal went in thanks to Nathan "Duke" Ellington (finished the 2004/05 season as the Championship top scorer) who headed home the ball at the back post.
The Latics party started and across the stands of the three JJB Stadium was a sea of blue and white shirts singing and dancing. I have to say that just by writing those words and beating Reading by 3 goals to 1 in front of 19,662 fans sends goose bumps down my back and a huge smile across my face.
I remember the final whistle by referee Martin Atkinson on 93 minutes; it came after 3 minutes of deafening whistles from the Wigan faithful and signalled a pitch invasion by fans. In clear view was Jason Roberts who was being carried on fans shoulders wearing no shirt that had probably been taken off his back by souvenir hunters.
All the team were heroes on that day and promotion to the Premiership is a moment that I will always treasure?the moment when each one of us Latics Supporters knew that everything would change and a fantastic chapter in the Wigan Athletic story would begin.
