The 1997 Championship season will always bring back superb memories for me. It was my 10th season watching Latics and after struggling for so long, to have a season like that was breathtaking. Every game was memorable, but here are a few to savour:

Carlisle home. We won 1-0. "Hello, Hello. Lowey is back! Lowey is back!" rang around the popular side as David Lowe scored his first goal after returning to the club to condemn our promotion rivals to defeat.

Colchester home. We won 1-0. Pat McGibbon scored with a header. Promotion was secured and the journey to the Premiership began.

Torquay away. We won 3-0. Promotion Party!! I think all of Wigan descended on Torquay that weekend. The night out after the game was awesome - the streets and pubs filled with jubilant Wiganers singing and dancing their hearts out.

Mansfield home. We won 2-0 to clinch the title. All the way down Woodhouse Lane after the game the traffic couldn't move as 7,000 people 'sat down for the champions'. Amazing.

A few weeks ago I found the matchday programme from the Mansfield game. The first page has Duncan Sharpe stating that this was the first step on our road to the Premiership. Hands up - how many people who read it that day actually believed it would happen?........
